Some great things Paul said in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, verses 1-9
In the first verse of 1 Corinthians, Paul is telling the people of the Corinthian church that he could not talk to them about spiritual things because the people of the Corinthian church were still living their lives in a carnal way, due to which they were not able to understand Paul's spiritual things. The people of the Corinthian church were still living their lives as believers. They did not yet have the qualities of a disciple.
In the second verse of 1 Corinthians 3, Paul is clearly saying that he is still like a child in the Lord who can only be fed milk. Paul has already fed milk to the Corinthian church. By now the Corinthian church should have moved forward in the maturity of the Lord, but they were not able to do so. The people of the Corinthian church were not ready to become disciples.
In 1 Corinthians 3 verse 3, Paul is saying that the people of the Corinthian church were not able to move forward from believers to disciples because the teachings of the Word had not been applied among them yet. They were still fighting among themselves, being jealous of each other, backbiting each other. By doing this they were ruining the unity of their church. This shows that they were still living a carnal life and not a spiritual one. They had not yet learnt to apply the Word in their lives or they did not want to do so.
In 1 Corinthians 3 verse 4, Paul is saying that they were not following Christ yet but were following people. That is why in that church some were calling themselves Paul's and some were calling themselves Apollos. Those people had to follow the true Messiah but they were busy following man. That is why they did not know how to apply the Word in their lives.
In verse 5 of 1 Corinthians 3, Paul is saying that Paul and Apollos are nothing. These people have not given their lives for your sins. Even if these people give their lives, your sins are not forgiven. You have to believe that Christ has given his life for your sins and only because of this you have got forgiveness of sins and you have been saved.
In verse 6 of 1 Corinthians 3, Paul is saying that every one of us has to serve the gospel of God. One of us will sow the seed of God's Word and someone will water it. It is God's job to grow that seed. And he will grow it according to his time. God has chosen us by grace to help him expand his kingdom and bring people closer to God. Paul is serving God by doing the same with his life.
In 1 Corinthians 3 verse 7 Paul is saying that neither the one who sows the seed of faith in God nor the one who waters it. It is God who is everything and will make every seed grow according to His will. That is why no man should boast of serving God but of God.
In 1 Corinthians 3 verse 8 Paul is saying that the one who sows the seed of the word of faith and the one who waters it is man. Man does both these things but the work of making it grow is God's work. That is why every person should try his best to sow and nurture the seed of faith. By doing this, every person will get his reward in heaven according to his hard work.
In 1 Corinthians 3:9, Paul is saying that just as a farmer sows the seed of his field and nurtures it, but it is God who makes the crop grow, similarly we also have to expand God's kingdom and become God's co-workers. We have also been created by God and He has created us in His image, so it is our duty to become God's co-workers to expand His kingdom.
